    The Bible and the biblical stories that lie within it inspire countless other works of literature. Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross for the good of all humanity inspires many countless copycats. These copycats follow one pattern, sacrifying themselves and sometimes their own lives for the betterment of the Universe.
  • Gandalf

    Gandalf

    Gandalf is the powerful wizard that not only guides a band of dwarves and a hobbit to kill a dragon, but also undergoes another quest where he brings another rag tag party to destroy the one ring top rule them all. In this quest, he sacrifices himself and falls with Balrog in order to help his friends. This action would save all of Middle-Earth. Plus, he comes back as Gandalf the White, a resurrection akin to Jesus Christ himself.
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi

    Obi-Wan Kenobi

    Obi-Wan(Ben) Kenobi is a very important figure in the Star Wars franchise. He is the Jedi who affecrively trains young Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker. He sacrifices himself in a duel with Darth Vader in the end of A New Hope. His death gives way for Luke, Leia, Chewbacca, and Han to escape. Now, how does this save all of humanity. Well, since the Jedi before Obi-Wan Kenobi have shown abilities for knowing the future, it can be assumed he knew saving these heroes would save the galaxy.

    Spock

    Spock is the popular half-human half-vulcan science officer and first officer of the Enterprise. He meets his untimely end after sacrificing himself to save the crew of the enterprise in The Wrath of Khan. He saves the crew by fixing the engine to allow it to escape, but expired from radiation poisoning. This action would let the crew of the Enterprise continue to help and save countless species and planets.
  • Maharet and Mekare

    Maharet and Mekare

    These twin vampires in the Queen of the Damned give up any humanity they had left to save all vampires. After the head of all vampires Akasha is slain, all the vampires around them begin to die. The sisters each cvonsume a piece of Akasha and each take half of the power. This moves saves all the vampires such as fan favorite Lestat. This turns Mekare into a statue and makes Maharet more distant and soulless than she's ever been.

    Miles Bennett Dyson

    The sadly forgotten Miles Bennett Dyson graces the screens in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. He was the original inventor of the microprocessor that would lead to the creation of Skynet. To prevent the deadly research he and his fellowship created he sacrifices himself. He blew up the Skynet Headquarters and died effectively saving humanity until the next Terminator movie.

    Harry S Stamper

    Harry S Stamper is the protagonist and reluctant hero in the movie Armageddon. He sacrifices himself by staying behind to self detonate the nuke to destroy the asteroid. This asteroid was on a path to impact on planet Earth and would of done so without his sacrafice.

    The Iron Giant

    The infamous animated Iron Giant is a savior of an entire town in the movie of the same name. He took the explosives into the atmosphere in order to save the town of Rockwell. He dies in the explosion effectively sacrificing himself to save everyone in the town's lives.
  • The Doctor

    The Doctor

    The Doctor in Doctor Who sacrifices himself/herself every episode for the good of humanity or the universe. In the episode, The Christmas Invasion, Earth is invaded by aliens. Worst of all, the doctor just regenerated making him weak and tired. When the 10th doctor comes to blows with the alien leader in a sword fight he looses his hand temporarily and almost dies twice. He sacrifices himself yet again for humanity and lives to tell the tale mostly unscathed, since his hand regenerated.

    King Leonidas was the king of the 300 Spartans that sacrificed themselves to protect Greece from Persia at the battle of Thermopylae Pass. They all lost their lives to save the citizens of the Greek City States. This event inspired the movie 300 about the king and the battle
  • Star Lord and Groot

    Star Lord and Groot

    Star Lord, Peter Quill, is the protagonist in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. He is joined by another character, a living tree alien species named Groot. The two of them perform a self-sacrifice to stop Ronan. Groot uses his tree abilities to build a protective shell around himself and his friends as Ronan's ship explodes. He dies and is blown apart, but his friends and a miniture part of himself survive. Peter Quill grabs the Space Stone from Ronan's hands knowing it could kill him.

    After Kyle Crane saves the fictional city of Harran from complete zombie infection, he turns his eyes towards the outskirts of the city of Harran towards a cult known as the Following. Once he discovers how these people are beating the infection, turning themselves into sentient undead, he goes after their leader Jasmine and either kills her or helps her. No matter what the player decides, Kyle Crane dies in order to save the rest of the world from the Harran Virus.

    The protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2 is anything but a good guy. He is a bastard all the way up to his prognosis of Tuberculosis. After this he tries his hardest to protect his family,the Van Der Linde Gang. He spends the final two chapters convincing them of Dutch's madness and getting them to realize their error. He later dies in a fistfight with the gang's traitor, Micah Bell. Although his sacrifice is small, it helps members like John, Abigail, and Jack liver honest lives.

    Rick Grimes

    The ex sheriff now zombie killing leader of the group dies on the season finale of The Walking Dead. He sacrifices himself in a last stand against the hoards of the undead to save his people. He explodes the bridge after bating the walkers onto it and goes down with it. His actions would prevent the potential deaths of all the citizens of Alexandria, Hilltop, and the Kingdom.
  • Iron Man

    Iron Man

    Tony Stark is a billionaire philanthropist in the popular Avengers and Marvel movies. He sacrifices himself to destroy and end the power Thanos wields, the Infinity Stones. He takes the stones upon himself and delivers the killer line, "I Am Iron Man."
    He dies for the good of his friends and to save the universe from Thanos' reign of terror.
  • John Snow

    John Snow

    John Snow is the assumed bastard later revealed to be the son of a Stark and a Targaryen. At the end of Daenerys's killing spree where she burned down all of king's landing, John realizes she has turned bad. He kills her in a kiss and is arrested soon after. Her dragon or the people could of killed him for this making this a self sacrafice his actions probably saved countless others she might of burned after going mad.
