    Football: The Begining

    Fotball first began in the 11th century, in 1280 was recorded as the first account of kicking a ball. One of the players was killed as he ran into an opponents dagger.
  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution changed working class leisure by reducing the amount of free time available and by contributing to the pressure which altered the character of many traditional sporting past times.
  • The first football club

    The very first football club in the world was formed in 1796 it was called The Gymnastic Society; this was based in London as a sports club for football and wrestling. <atches took place on the south side of the river Thames whichis now a days called Surrey
  • 90 minute football match

    In 1846 the length of a football match was first introduced in Lancashire, it was 45 minutes a half with 2 halfs this rule is still used today
  • Cambridge rules

    The cambridge rules were established in 1848 in Cambridge University this was to make football a fiar game to play, also to prevent people getting dangerously hurt and to make the game fun. these rules allowed goalkicks, throw ins and forwards passes.
  • Oldest football club

    In 1857 the worlds oldest football club was established Sheffiled Football Club. The Sheffield rules were also formed.
  • Oldest exsisting football club

    In 1862 the oldest exsisting Football club was established Notts County F.C. they were the oldest team in the world to play professionally.
  • The FA

    The football association (FA) were formed in 1863; this is the governing body of football in the UK. This is the oldest Fotball association in the world.
  • The first Competition

    The first ever football competition was called the Youdan Cup played in Sheffield with 12 teams taking part in 1867
  • The first FA Cup

    The first ever FA cup was played at the Oval in London and was won by Bolton Wanderers
  • First International Match

    In 1872 the first ever International match is recorded by FIFA which ended 0-0 between England and Scotland and it was watch by 4,00 spectators.
  • Scottish FA

    In 1873 The Scottish FA were formed which 7 teams attended a meeting to confirm.
  • Crossbar

    In 1875 the Crossbar was introduced this replaced tape as the top of the goal.
  • Welsh FA

    In 1876 the Welsh FA were formed in a hotel in Wrexham
  • Irish FA

    The IFA were established in 1880 by football Clubs in Belfast, a meeting was called by Clifftonville for this to take place
