The Galveston hurricane happens September 8th, 1900. Within the same year, they change the way they are governed. Prohibition, the movement to ban alcohol consumption, lasted from 1918 to 1931. Texas was not an exception & beame dry in 1918. The 19th amedment grants women sufferage & is passed June 04, 1919.

January 10th, 1901 Anothony Lucas strikes oil at Spindeltop. This causes boom towns to rise in the same year. A few months later, the price of oil falls to 10¢ a barrel. When the production of oil increased, with it went the need to use it & in 1916 transportation such as cars & buses became more common. years later in 1923 oil is still contributing to the culture & education of modern Texas.

When the first world war started July 28th,1914, the US was already in conflict with Mexico. They had been in this conflict for 4 years at the time. After the war in 1918, the conflict is resolved. May 17,1915, the Germans sink the Lusitania/ After wards the Zimmmerman telegram is sent & the US joins the war. The war ends November 1st, 1918.

October 24, 1929 the stock market crashed. This marked the beginning of a depression lasting until World War II. March 4th, 1923 a deal to help all problems is created. It was called the new deal. The dust bowl was occuring at this time, & lasted from 1932-1941.

World War II started September 1, 1939 which brings the US out of its depression. Pearl Harbor is bombed Demcember 7, 1941 & we enter the war because of it. D-Day happens June 6, 1944, which is the turning point of the war. An atomic bomb is dropped on Hiroshima August 6, 1945. Axis powers surrender September 2, 1945.
