The Industrial Revolution
Education went through a change during The Industrial Revolution, leading more people to a better education. The entire country was becoming more advanced. Dubois and Washington helped former slaves become teachers, craftsmen, and business men. He taught by doing the task and not by theories or abstract ideas. This gave blacks equal opportunity for education. -
School Curriculum Established
Committee of 10 appointed by the National Education Association (NEA). Recommended 8 years of Elementary Education and 4 years of Secondary Education. Elective subjects were offered and students were able to study things outside of the fixed curriculum. We still require 8 years of Elementary and 4 years of Secondary Education today. Elective classes are still offered and highly recommended. -
SAT
The SAT is still used today to assess student's educational abilities for college admission. It includes writing, reading, and mathematics. The name has changed many times. The validity is still in question today. -
Federal Aid to Education
The government started funding Education. This came about to stimulate advances in Education and technology. Grants and loans were offered along with funds for minorities and underprivileged. Government Aid for funding has made education possible for many people and it still does to this day, especially for higher education (Tech schools and Universities). -
Brown vs. Board of Education
Denying education in specific schools due to race was a violation of the 14th amendment. This specific incident played a huge role in schools becoming unsegregated and everyone having the right to a fair education.
