    Election of 1932
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (Democratic) became president due to defeating Herbert Hoover (Republican). F.D. Roosevelt presidency sparked a time for relief and recovery for many Americans due to the Great Depression. This was also the beginning of the First New Deal that ensured reforms to protect the people and economy.
  • Public Works Administration

    Public Works Administration
    The Public Works Administration (PWA) was established to hire workers to build airports,damns,schools,hospitals and parks. The public had more access to jobs and new opportunities for communities. The PWA was a relief because over 2 million people were given jobs. This was during the first new deal.
  • Bank Holiday

    Bank Holiday
    FDR first action was to address the bank crisis which led to the Bank Holiday created to close all banks for inspection. Banks would reopen if they were in good conditions such as being able to regulate money.Banks now served as a relief for consumers and the Emergency Banking Act was passed. This took place in the First New Deal.
  • Civilian Conservation Corps

    Civilian Conservation Corps
    The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was established for the unemployed. Young men aged 18-25 years old were hired for building roads, parks and soil erosion projects.3 million men were employed. This served as a relief to unemployed citizens and was part of the first new deal.
  • Tennessee Valley Authority

    Tennessee Valley Authority
    The Tennessee Valley Authority(TVA) was created to bring electricity to the South and create jobs. Cheap power was provided and low costing housing. The TVA was a reform because it helped strengthen the economy and gave opportunities to workers in the South such as farmers. This occurred during the first new deal.
  • Glass-Steagall Act

    Glass-Steagall Act
    The Glass-Steagall Act was passed to prevent banks from taking deposits , this helped add $1 billion to economy and established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The FDIC guaranteed customer bank accounts and restored public confidence in banks. The FDIC is still in use today. This act was a reform and relief. This act took place in the first new deal.
  • National Recovery Association

    National Recovery Association
    The National Recovery Association (NRA) was created to stimulate the industry by providing fair wages and hours for workers. "Fair competition" was established. Workers were also given the right to unionize which was a big issue during the Gilded Age due to riots. The NRA remains to this day and a recovery for the people due to the Great Depression. This was part of the first new deal.

    21st amendment
    The 21st amendment was ratified to allow the consumption and sale of alcohol. Due to prohibition in the early 1900s ,crime arose. FDR allowed the sale of alcohol because it would stimulate the economy. This is a recovery and part of the first new deal.
  • Securities and Exchange Commission

    Securities and Exchange Commission
    Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was created to regulate the stock market and prevent another crash.This is a reform and part of the first new deal.
  • Works Progress Administration

    Works Progress Administration
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was created as an agency to give jobs to whom needed them. The workers built roads,bridges and buildings. This was a relief because people were given jobs. This was part of the second new deal.
  • Wagner Act

    Wagner Act
    The Wagner Act was established by the National Labor Relations Board to protect the rights of workers to organize labor unions and take part of strikes. The demands of workers had to be met. This was a reform and relief because workers had the right to use their 1st amendment. This took part in the second new deal.
  • Social Security

    Social Security
    Social Security was created for Americans who were unemployed,disabled and mothers with dependent children. These people would receive the money at age 65. This was the first federal insurance program based on collection of taxes from employees working careers. This was a relief and reform because government aided the people.This was part of the second new deal.
  • Revenue Act of 1935

    Revenue Act of 1935
    The Revenue Act of 1935 was passed to redistribute wealth which was one cause of the Great Depression. This act raised tax rates to 75% on incomes above 500K . This act helped FDR gain support and was a reform. This was part of the second new deal.
  • United States Housing Act

    United States Housing Act
    The United States Housing Act was created to build homes for poor Americans. This was the first major national effort to bring equality between race. People were aided by government. This was recovery and relief, part of the second new deal.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act

    Fair Labor Standards Act
    The Fair Labor Standards Act was created to set up minimum wage and maximum hours standards. Also forbidding children under the age of 16 from working. This is still used today. Many minorities did not benefit from this act. This is a recovery because it stimulated the economy. This is part of the second new deal.
