    • The invasion of Manchuria occurred on September 19, 1931 when the Kwantung Army of the Empire of Japan invaded Manchuria right after the Mukden incident. After this invasion Mongolia and the Soviet Union launched the Manchurian Strategic Offensive Operation. This is important because it shows the power of the Japanese.

    • The first Election for FDR was in 1932. He was in his second term as the Governor of New York was he was elected as the 32nd President of the United States. He ran against Hubert Hoover. He represented the Democratic Party.

    • During 1932 Hitler was becoming more well-known around Germany causing many people to become in favor of his rule. On January 1, 1933 Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany and was named head of the Nazi party. After these actions by Germany, it gave the power of Germany to be held in Adolf Hitler's hands. This causing Germany to invade and attack Poland causing WWII.

    • After the German defeat in WWI, the Treaty of Versailles was created to punish Germany. One of the key components of the Treaty was that the German Army had limit to their size. This infuriated Hitler so he tripled the legal amount from 100,000 men to 300,000 men. Hitler also ordered Admiral Raeder, the leader of the German navy to start building massive warships. The breaking of the Treaty of Versailles gave Hitler power and confidence which led him to invade many other countries after this.

    • The Italo- Ethiopian War was a armed conflict that led to Italy's total control over Ethiopia. After this war the League of Nations condemned the Italian invasion in 1935. This event leads to WWII because this war gave Italy the confidence and showed their power that they could invade anyone.

    On September 1, 1939 Hitler invaded Poland from the West. Two days after this happened France and Britain both declared war on Germany causing WWII. This Is important because this action caused the second World War.

    • Operation Barbossa was another name for the invasion of the Soviet Union by the Axis Powers. This attack during WWII was a leading factor for the steady push of troops from the Allied Powers on the Axis powers troops.

    • Winston Churchill's, the Prime Minister of Britain, spirits were high when he told Britain that they were going to be able to fend off the German advancing forces. RAF or Royal Air Force of Britain was able to fend off the German air troops which in the end help Britain fend of the German troops.

    • In order to withstand the power of the Allied Powers the German Empire, Italy and in the end Japan formed. These empires were formed to stop the Allied forces which included the Britain Empire and the Russian Empire. This was created to oppose the Allied powers which ultimately created the two sides of WWII.

    • Pearl Harbor was a major Navy port stationed with many U.S naval men. This was attacked by the Japanese airplanes. More than 2400 Americans were killed including civilians, and 1000 more were wounded. This led to President FDR declaring war on Japan.

    • Also called the Battle of Normandy, this battle lasted about 3 months on the beaches of France. 150,000 allied troops flew their planes over the beaches and many landed on the beaches to fight. This battle resulted in the Allied powers liberating western Europe from Germany.

President Truman was a very successful President

The first bomb was dropped in Hiroshima killing over 80,000 civilians. The second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki and that was on September 9, 1945. This bomb killed about 80,000

    The Truman Doctrine helped aid Turkey and Greece to help prevent the Soviet Union from spreading and taking them over. This happened during the Cold War, which was a series of dry battles between the Soviet Union and the United States.

    • Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were tried for selling top secret atomic bomb plans to the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War. On April 6th, Julius and Ethel were sentenced to death because of the severity of the case.

    This Supreme Court Case ruled that racial segregation in schools is unconstitutional. Linda Brown was denied access to the school because she was black. So, her dad Oliver Brown filed a class-action suit against the Board of Education in Topeka, Kansas.

    Emmett Till a 14-year old African-American was brutally murdered by a group of White supremacists for allegedly flirting with a white women. He was beat severely, his eyes were gouged out and was shot in the head just for “Allegedly” flirting with a white women. The murderers were the white woman's husband and her brother.

    • The only reason why America wanted to be involved during the Vietnam War is because they wanted to contain the spread of Communism. Ho Chi Minh, the leader of the Vietcong empire invaded South Vietnam and this sparked the involvement of the US in Vietnam. In the end, the Vietnam war led to the deaths of thousands of American troops and a year later communist North Vietnam took of South Vietnam.

    • The cuban missile crisis is a time where American citizens were in terror and fear due to the fact that the Soviet Union had missiles aimed at America just off the coast of Florida in Cuba. JFK immediately set up a meeting with both Cuban and Soviet leaders to figure out what was going on. They came to a agreement that if the US were to never invade Cuba again than the missiles were to be taken off the island.

    MLK and others were protesting the treatment of Blacks in Birmingham, Alabama when they were sent to jail for illegal protests. Court said that MLK could not hold protests in Birmingham. This hit the African- Americans hard, but made them fight harder for the want to achieve.

    The March on Washington was a large protest which included 250,000 people of all races. The protest was for jobs and freedom and ran by Martin Luther King Jr. This is where MLK had his famous “I have a dream” speech.

    JFK was the 35th President of the United States. He was assassinated in his Presidential Motorcade by Lee Harvey Oswald. The Governor was also hit in the chest. JFK slumped over onto Mrs. Kennedy's lap as he got hit.

    These murders were known as the Freedom Summer Murders. These men were kidnapped and murdered because they were trying to help African-Americans vote in Mississippi. The three were most likely shot by police after leaving the jail they were held at for a speeding violation.

    • The Gulf of Tonkin was the incident that led the United States to engage more in the Vietnam War. The USS Maddox was pursued by 3 Vietnamese submarines. The USS Maddox was shot at, this incident led to the United States involvement in the Vietnam War.

    In August of 1964 North Vietnamese submarine boats fired upon the USS Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin, sinking the ship and many with it. This was the factor that pushed the United States into the Vietnam War. President at the time, Lyndon B. Johnson than sent troops to Vietnam to stop the spread of communism.

    Rolling Thunder was a American Bombing campaign where the Air Force would drop many bombs at once to hopefully kill many troops, but it ended up killing many civilians. After these bombing occurred it opened up the eyes of many Americans and this led to many protests against war in Vietnam.

    • Throughout the Vietnam War, the South Vietnamese and the United States had been dominating the North Vietnamese, but this all changed. The Tet- Offensive was a series of harsh attacks and "blitzes" made by the North Vietnamese on many civilian and troop filled cities. This turned the tables of the War and ultimately led to the departure of many troops in Vietnam.

    • Woodstock was a huge concert in upstate New York attracting crowds of more than 400,000. This was important because many "hippies" were becoming involved in Vietnam and this was a place where they could express their thoughts in front of thousands.

    • At Kent State University, 4 students were brutally killed by the National Guard who were called in to stop the riots. These students were rioting against the Vietnam War trying to protest it. This led to many college campuses around the United States to close.
