    Gapa was born in the small town of Tirukkoyilur, Tamilnadu. This town is located about 120 miles south from Chennai (formerly known as Madras).

    Gapa was the youngest of five children, two of the older children were girls and the rest of them were boys. Gapa's mother gave birth to all her kids at home, because at the time there were hospitals to assisit. His two older sisters died at a very young, i fact Gapa never even met them they had died before Gapa was born.

    Gapa's Dad owned a peanut business
    Gapa's dad's company was involved in harvesting, drying, and cleaning of peanuts to sell in wholesale markets. He was also involved in peanut oil extraction and sale. During that time there were no machines for extracting oil from peanuts.

    Gapa's school was in Tirukkoyilr, Tamilnadu, The name of his school was Tirukkoyilur Board Elementary School.

    Gapa use to help his mom alot around the house, with household chores, and cooking and gardening. Gapa use to play with his friends a lot, and go and see movies with them.

    When Gapa was a teenager he still lived where he was born and his family continued to live in the same house he was born in. Gapa went to the Board High School in Tirukkoyilur, Tamilnadu
  • Gapa's father passed away

    Gapa was very close to his father and when he suddenly passed away it was a huge loss for him and he was totally devasted.Gapa did a lot of interesting and exciting things with his father and had learned a lot form him. His father's death had a huge impact on his fmaily as his mother was a home maker and did not work. So, Gapa and his brothers had to take up small jobs right away to suport the family.

    Gapa's first job
    Gapa remembers the first time he got to sit behind the wheel of a car, and learn how to dirve. For him it was a very exciting experience and he treasures memories of that even today. Gapa's frist job was working at an automobile shop (coach building). This first job gave him a first hand knowledge of how cars operated, and this led him to get very interested in the science behind bulilding new things that moved.

    Gapa's work

    Gapa had moved from Chennai to Mumbai in 1967 prior to his marriage, and his job took him to many places. In 1971 Gapa moved to Pune for 3 years after which Gapa ahd his family moved to Dubai in 1974. In 1979, They came back to India and were in Delhi for about an year, then they finally settled back in Bombay. In 1992, Gapa was stattioned in Pune again and he decided to retire in 1995.

    Gapa's Marriage
    Gapa married Vijayalakshmi, my grandmother, who was from amiddle class family. She lived in the same city that Gapa had live in at the time, Chennai which is in the South of India. The marriage between my Gapa and Nani was arranged between the two families, although Gapa tells me that he had seen Nani a couple times before.
  • After the marriage

    Soon after the marriage, my Gapa and Nani moved to Bombay, now called Mumbai, in the West of India. That is where my mom was born. My grandparents named my mother as Maha, their eldest child, a year after that my Nani had given birth to a boy, my uncle Ganesh.
