Reading and Writing Experiences

  • Memories of playing school

    Memories of playing school
Growing up my sister Mary and me we would love to play school. Most of the time Mary would be the teacher but sometimes she would let me be the teacher. We would have assignments we would have to finish and had a gradebook. But there was one rule what whatever the teacher assign the student, the teacher had to complete the assignment also for a "teachers copy."
  • Duck for President

    Duck for President
Everyday growing up as a kid I would love to read, "Duck For President." My favorite part of the story was that the duck would drink coffee. After a while reading the book I could script quotes from the book. But the book never got old.
  • Thank You Gary Paulson

    Thank You Gary Paulson
In 5th Grade, I went to a different classroom for reading class. This was the only class I had a different teacher for the main subjects. Mrs. Jarvis made us read the Hatchet. I love this book. I love the survival book. I went on to read a couple books in the series. Even for a book report in senior English class I read one of the books in the series.
  • Guiness Book of World Record

    Guiness Book of World Record
Guinness of World Record was the most popular book in elementary school. I had a dream that I would break one of the records. This dream would never happen. This book was awesome with tons of pictures and little amount of words.
  • Smart Board

    Smart Board
Smart boards started being popular in classrooms in late elementary and early middle school. I would love to play spelling and grammar games on the smart board with classmates. The smart board actually made studying for spelling test exciting.
  • Speech Class

Growing up I struggled with my speech. My speech progress made me work harder reading books out load. I did not like reading books out loud growing up and still today. I have trouble with bigger words. This created a situation that I would find any way to avoid to read out loud to the class.
  • Spelling Test

    Spelling Test
Spelling test was my biggest enemy. I believe spelling test was a waste of time. I just memorized the words on the test. During the spelling bee's I was the kid that gets out first. In first grade car was the easiest word to spell.
  • Gary the Lobster

    Gary the Lobster
In 6th Grade at Brodhead Middle School our English teacher gave us a assignment of writing a children's book. I wrote a little 10 hard cover picture book. I even drew all the pictures. The book was about a lobster named Gary starting a lobster restaurant on the beaches of Australia.
  • Frustrating wrting

    Frustrating wrting
Starting in middle school through college their are plenty of essay assignments. I have trouble putting my words on to the paper. Through the years I tried programs that your voice types for you. But those programs did not work the best.
  • Brewers fan website

    Brewers fan website
In the year of the craze of kids creating websites. My website I created was a fan page about the Milwaukee brewers. I only took care of the website for less than a week. The website had tons of pictures of brewers and I would post the score of the past games.
  • Newspapers

    Newspapers
Starting in middle school I would take one of the teacher's copy of the Wisconsin State Journal and read it during the day. After a while the teachers would yell at me for reading the newspaper while they are teaching.
  • Texting

    Texting
Texting is the worst. Texting is like writing a essay. The worst part is waiting for a response to the text. Sometimes the person does not even return your text. It is completely easier to call the person and get the answer in less than the time it takes to write the text message.
  • Google Drive

    Google Drive
In English class during high school my teachers would make us create a google drive account. Every essay we would do would be in a shared folder with our teacher. This was horrible for a procrastinator like myself. The English teacher could look at my progress on the writing assignment. The teacher could see that I finished the writing assignment last minute.
  • People that Edit my papers

I do not like people editing my papers. If people edit my papers I hate people explaining every mistakes through the paper. I do not mind people editing my papers. I know my papers are improved greatly by having people edit them. Just do not talk to me about it. Just edit it and email me back.
  • Thank You Spark Notes

    Thank You Spark Notes
This timeline event is a shout out to Spark Notes. Spark notes saved my butt in high school English classes. Spark notes allowed me to clarify what I read in a chapter, or allowed me to read the chapter summary because I did not read the chapter the night before. Spark notes are a blessing for procrastinators like me.

  • Renew love of reading children books to kids

Renew love of reading children books to kids
Growing up I love to read picture books. The older I got less and less pictures was in the books. Since early February I work with autistic kids. During the time with the kids I read them stories. Reading these stories is one of the best parts during work. I enjoy the stories as a adult. The art work of the pages a creative and amazing. Also, the stories remind me of my early years in childhood.
  • Wanting to learn more

    Wanting to learn more
Since the friends I met in panama. Most of all of them know little to none English. But now they are trying to become fluent in English. This makes me eager for me to learn Spanish and to become proper English. I am trying to learn Spanish with a program online every night.
  • I Love Chicago Style Work Citing

I hate all the different styles of citing research in my essays. I believe their should be one style. That one style is MLA. MLA is the easiest and simplest. But I love Chicago Style because this type of work citing takes up over a quarter of the paper. So there is less space for writing.
