He wanted to bring the nation back together. there were a lot of people who helped America become modern. Rockefeller helped with the oil and Vanderbilt built the first railroad during this time.

  • Robert Frost

    Robert Frost
    Robert Frost's first poem is published. His first poem's name was "My Butterfly: an Elegy," and he became successful through American History. He was one of the famous writers in this time period. He was born in San Francisco, moved to New England at age eleven. Later in 1897, he went to Harvard, but had health problems two years later and had to leave.

    Carl Sandburg
    Carl Sandburg was born in Galesburg, Illinois, on January 6, 1878, His parents wanted them to come to America from Sweden. He loved to write, but had to quit school in eighth grade to do other jobs.
    Sandburg did not come from a literary background, but he publishes his Chicago poem in this time period. He was recipient of the Pulitzer Prizes.

    The United States entered into the World War I in April 6, 1917. Germany was trying to destroy the Allies by committing War of Attrition. Three days later, The US broke relations by Germany and A Germany- U Boat was sunk.

    The Great Depression was the worst economic turn down during the industrial period in the American history. It started on October 29, 1929 and ended in 1939. There was a very high unemployment and a lot of people were very poor and desperate. There was a lot of high paying stocks and taxes. Everything was extremely expensive.

    The Japanese attack The Pearl Harbor and that is when the US enters the World War. The bombing killed more than 2300 Americans; leaving a lot injured as well. Their goal was to destroy or damage nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight battleships, and over 300 airplanes.

    The US drops the bombs on Japan on August 6 and the 9th on the year 1945. They dropped one bomb in Hiroshima and one in Nagasaki. This was part of the Quebec Agreement. This occurred in the final days of the World War II. The Allies took away the victory of this war.
