    The "Twin Engine" consisting of two horizontal single cylinder units parallel to one another,however it proved insufficient. It was immediately followed by a better design. The "Contra Engine" was an engine designed in which both single cylinder units are positioned opposite each other. The invention of the "Contra Engine" gave way to the horizontally-opposed piston engine.
