  • The first school in United States

    The first school was established by Franciscans in 1606. The school was established in a Spanish settlement in now day Florida.
  • First "Free School"

    The first free school was opened in Virginia, but since the education is the southern colonies is typically done in home by parents or by tutors.
  • The Land Ordinance of 1785

    This specifies that western territories set aside land. The land was roughly 640 arces in sections. This land was used for schools.
  • First college for women

    There was 80 students that arrived at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. It was the first ever college for women. It's founder Mary Lyon.
  • Robert v. City of Boston

    The Massachusetts Supreme Court Rules that Boston schools can deny enrollment of African-American students from segragated schools. Schools that are necessarily white-only.
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    There was a lot of laws and acts coming from this case, but the one is equal education. Seperate but equal.
  • Smith-Lever Act

    Establishes system of cooperative extension of services connected to land grant universities. This also nationalized 4-H
  • ACT test

    The first ever ACT test was first administered.
  • ESEA

    Part of Lyndon Johnson's "War on Poverty". It provided federal funds to low income students.
  • Indian Education Act

    It becomes a law and established a comprehensive approach to the American Indian and Alaskan Indian unique needs.
