    Beginning of Basketball and First Basketball Game
    Basketball first starts on December 21, 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts by a man named James Naismith. He made basketball in a gym class that was tired of playing the games over and over again. The first basketball was also played on this day. They had 2 peach baskets on both ends and a soccer ball. The first game had 9 players on each team. The first ever basket made was by a kid named William R. Chase. The final score was 1-0. The only basket made in the game was by Chase.
  • First Pro Game Played

    The first pro basketball game ever played was between the Trenton YMCA and the Brooklyn YMCA. The game was played at the Trenton Masonic Temple. Trenton won the game 15-1 over Brooklyn.
  • First NBA Game

    First NBA Game
    The NBA game was played between the New York Knickerbockers (Knicks) and the Toronto Huskies. The game was played in Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The first ever basket was made by Ossie Schectman. The final score was 68-66 the Knicks beat the Huskies in a close game.
  • First NBA Finals Winner

    In the 1947 season, the Philadelphia Warriors played against the Chicago Stags in a 7 game series. The Warriors were the team with the home court field advantage. The Warriors won the first 3 games and took a 3-0 lead in the series very quickly. The Stags won the next game, but that was it and the Warriors won the next game winning the first ever NBA Finals in 5 games. All of the games were close. The game that was the biggest win was only a 13 point game.

    The Lakers Dynasty

    The Lakers are also another very proud franchise. They have won 16 NBA finals and that is the second most in NBA history. The Lakers have won the NBA finals in 1949-1950, 1952-1954, 1972, 1980, 1982, 1985. 1987-1988, 2000-2002, and 2009-2010. Some all-time great Lakers are, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O'Neal, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West (The Logo), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and maybe the greatest of all is Kobe Bryant (Who we remember and live for).   • First NBA All-Star Game

    The idea of having an all-star game came up in 1951, by the NBA President Maurice Podoloff, NBA publicity director Haskell Cohen, and Celtics Owner Walter A. Brown.The game was held on March 2nd 1951 at Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The best players from the West played the best players from the East. These players were known as the West All-Stars and the East All-Stars. The final score was not close as the East All-Stars easily beat the West All-Stars 111-94.

    The Celtics Dynasty

    The Celtics are one of the most proud franchises in NBA history. The Boston Celtics have won 17 NBA championships. This number is more than any other team in the NBA. The Celtics have won the finals in 1957, 1959-1966, 1968-1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, and 2008. Some of the amazing players that helped this team win some many championships include, Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Kevin Mchale, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen. These players helped to lead the Celtics to where they are today.
  • Dream Team

    The "Dream Team" was a nickname for the 1992 men's Olympic basketball team. The team consists of some of the greatest basketball players of all time. The players were, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magics Johnson, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, David Robinson, Scottie Pippen, Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin, and Christian Laettner. These players made history by being the first ever NBA players in the Olympics, they crushed everyone as they easily won the gold medal.
  • First WNBA Game

    On April 24, 1996, the New York Liberty and the Los Angeles Sparks faced off in the first ever WNBA basketball game. The WNBA is a women's pro basketball league that has the full support of the NBA. Penny Toler a Sparks player scored the first ever basket for this league. Even though the Sparks got the first basket, the Liberty got the last laugh, as they won 67-57.
  • First WNBA All-Star Game

    On July 14, 1999 the WNBA held their first ever All-Star game. It was West All-Stars vs. East All-Stars. The West team won handily 79-61. The leading scorer was Natalie Williams with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.
