Bone: Isabel and Thad couldn't keep Bone because the babysitter didn't like him. Isabel's father, Franklin, couldn't take Bone to the retirement home.

Henry: He really wants a dog and his best friend moved away.

Henry: Henry has made new friends in his neighborhood. His best friend moved away.

Bone: Bone runs away from Franklins empty apartment and wanders into the town where Henry lives.

Henry: Although Henry's parents told him that he can't have a dog, Henry spots a dog in his neighborhood.

Henry: Henry has a rehabilitation plan that he plans to use to train the dog and convince his parents to keep him.

Henry: Henry and his parents go to Aunt Susans house for Christmas and Henry learns the story of Sunny's death. Henry's dad is Charlie.

Henry: Although Henry's dad didn't want him to have a dog, to save him from sadness, he realizes how important this is to him.

Henry: Henry can't find Bone anymore

Henry: Henry and his dad go into the mountains to look for Bone. They find Bone stuck in an animal trap.

Henry & Charlie: They rescue Bone and take him to the vet where he heals.

Henry: Henry visits Bone everyday while he is recovering. And when he is well, he gets to go home with Henry. Henry names him Buddy.
