  • The first state board of education was created.

The first state board of education was created.
This event convinced people that education should be universal, nonsectarian, and free. I chose this event because it made school an option for everyone regardless of race, color, wealth, and gender. This gave all the opportunity to become educated and have more of an impact in society.
  • Child Study Movement

    Child Study Movement
I chose this event because it changed the way that educators viewed their students, it gave them insight on the behaviors of their students. This changed the focus from subject to student incorporating the lives of students to education. This also helps teachers develop their students not only in education but also for their future adult lives. This created a better curriculum to be updated later and a better development of students. We now relate education to the development of students.
  • Brown vs Board of Education

    Brown vs Board of Education
Brown vs Board of Education is important to how our public education functions today because it gave those of color rights to better schooling. This event made schooling truly equal, African Americans could now receive better education in better facilities. We now have a more diverse school system with cultural equity.
  • IDEA

    IDEA
I chose this event because student with disabilities were given equal education. This is important to how our school functions now because student with special needs were given specialized instruction and inclusion to classrooms. This is important because it gave opportunity for those with special needs to become educated in a free system. As a future special education teacher I have a passion that these students deserve equal opportunities and a chance to live a normal life after school.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
This was important to the history of education because this act held was set to increase student achievement. I chose this because many students who were low income or minority were brought equality. Education became more than just a job teachers had to work to ensure that students were grasping the materials.
