    Balkan Wars
    The Balkan Wars were two short wars fought in South-Eastern Europe, Serbia. These wars were fought between the members of the Balkan league and Omman Empire. Members of the Balkan league included Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Montenegro. The reason for the wars was to deprive the Omman Empire of nearly all of its remaining territory in Europe. These two war led up to WW1. Australia was involved in the war because there was and exile group in Australia who was providing ideas, money and weapons.
  • Assassination of Franz Ferdinand

    Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
    On this day Archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo. Franz Ferdinand was not liked because as soon as he became emperor he stated that he would be making some changes. He first decided to go to Sarajevo to inspect the Austro-Hungarian troops there. A serbian terrorist group called "The Black Hand" decided that this was where they would assassinate Franz.

  • Battle of Leige

    Battle of Leige
    This was the opening engagement of the German invasion on Belgium. This was the first battle of World War 1. This war went from the 4th of August to the 16th of August.
  • Battle of Anzac Cove

    Battle of Anzac Cove
    Anzac Cove was one of 5 battles in Gallipoli. For Australians this was the best known spot in Gallipoli. On the afternoon of the 25th of April Anzac Cove's beach was crowded with wounded Anzacs from ferocious action being fought out along the coastline of Anzac cove. On May 1st 1915 more then 27,000 men from the Anzac group had landed at Gallipoli.

    This was one of 5 battles in Gallipoli. After a failed attempt to invade the small village Krithia, This was one of the main landings for the ANZACS.

    Gallipoli
    After the start of World War 1 many Australian soldiers volunteered to fight in what was known as the failed Gallipoli campaign. This was the first time that soldiers from Australia and New Zealand united therefore they fought under the name ANZAC(Australian and New Zealand Army Corps). The plan of this campaign was to send soldiers down to Turkey to bring down Germany and take control over the Gallipoli Peninsula.

    The Battle of Lone Pine was one of 5 battles in Gallipoli. Lone Pine went from 6th August to 10th August 1915. This battle was between Australia and the Ottoman Empire. This battle happened because Australia wanted to create a diversion to draw the Turkish attentions away from the bigger battle of Suvla Bay and Sari Bair. An average of 3,000 Australian soldiers died and aroun 6,000 turkish soldiers died. Australia won this battle.

    This was one of 5 battles in Gallipoli. It was between Turkey and New Zealand. The battle or Sari Bair is also known as the battle of the Nek, The battle of Sari Bair began on 6th of August 1915.

    This was one of 5 battles in Gallipoli. Suvla Bay is located on the Aegean coastline of Anzac Cove. This was a fight between the UK and Ottoman Empire. Over 15,000 people lost their lives in this fight. Australia was involved because there were many Australian and New zealand soldiers fighting in Britains side.

    This was one of the major battles in World War 1. It lasted 9 months, 3 weeks and 7 days. This battle was fought between France and Germany.
  • USA declares war on Germany

    USA declares war on Germany
    If Germany were victorius then there German U-boats would intefer with US shipping deliveries. After a German boat sinked an American cargo ship America did no longer want there alliance with Germany. So they declared war on Germany on the 6th of April 1917.

    After Gerany realised that they could not win the war they wanted to sign an armistice with Russia. So Russia agreed and the armistice was signed

    The Germans realised that there was only one way to invade France through Flanders. This was in the north of France and also part of Belgium. They also sent some of their troops down south to Marne to distract the allies army.
  • End of World War 1

    End of World War 1
    World War 1 ended after Germany ran out of soldiers, money, weapons and supplies. This meant that Germany no longer had the essentials needed to win the war. Although both sides had casualties the Germans had fewer to lose. Also the arrival of America helped make the war end quicker.

    Although World War 1 ended in 1918 the official ending was 2010. This was official because this is when Germany signed the Armistice to stop the fighting.
