    The impact of Cotton Gin
    Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin in 1793. The cotton gin made more efficient progress at separating the seeds from the cotton. Eli Whitney thought that cotton gin would help reduce the amount of slaves needed to pick the cotton. The cotton gin actually put slaves on demand, slaves prior to the cotton coast only $100, but sense the cotton gin came, slaves went up to $1,000. Eli Whitney caused the demand for slaves, leading to the civil war.

Calhoun did not approve of this tariff, he was convinced that the future of slavery was in need of strong states.

    Congress being pressured by the south outta fear that Nebraska could turn into a free state. Douglas amended that Nebraska be divided into two, distinct territories, Kansas being a slave state, and Nebraska would be a free state, that congress accepted the proposal. Although the North argued that slaves would have to pass through states that have been free for over 30 years to get to Nebraska.

    Cane Fight happened between Preston Brooks and Charles Sumner, the cause of this was due the violent battles over slavery. In congress tempers were high, so some members weren't only armed with words but with pistols and canes. Charles Sumner gave a speech know as "The Crime Against Kansas", he stated that southerns were bullying and fraud in Kansas elections, he insulted a South Carolina senator Andrew Butler, Butler's nephew beats Sumner days later.
