Events That Impacted the US

  • The Spanish American War

    A war between Spain and the United States that was due to America's involvement in the Cuban War for Independence. This showed the world that the US was a large power and that they had emerged healthy from the civil war.

    The first world war that consisted of all the world's most powerful countries divided into two opposing sides: the Allies and the Central Powers. This event changed the US because it made it a global power that had emerged from the war as a industrial and political superpower.

    A stock market crash led the United States into an economic depression that crippled the country during the time of World War II.
  • The Holocaust

    Adolf Hitler rules Germany and has Jewish people killed and put into concentration camps. This event showed the world that the US would leave behind isolationism in order to help end the war.
  • World War II

    War that started in Germany and eventually involved the US after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. World War II strengthened America's sconomy and helped it to become a rapidly changing country.
  • The Cold War

    War in which the Soviet Union and America emerged as the world's superpowers. It involved the "arms race". This event showed the world that America would do whatever it took to keep communism from spreading, and also that America was a leader in space discoveries and the moon landing.

    A time period when the US and the Soviet Union were clashing because of both of their nuclear develpments as well as opposing opinions about communism.
  • The Korean War

    The war between North and South Korea. America and the United Nations took the side of South Korea, which was not a communist government. US helped to end the war, which made it so neither side one. Korea was split into North and South Korea.
  • The Vietnam War

    A war between North and South Vietnam. North was communist and South was not. America sided with the South as a way to prevent communism from spreading from the North into the South. America had a larger plan of containment, which is why they wanted to fight to prevent communism from spreading further.
