    BCE The First Olympic Games take place

    The first Olympic Games were held in 776 BC. The Olympic games took place to honor of the gods. The Olympics were held every four years during the full moon of midsummer. Only Greek were eligible to participate. The two types of games were Ithmos were held every four years and Pythian were held every four years. This was important because it was a special time where all of the gods could be honored.
