Gideon v. Wainwright
Clarence Earl Gideon went to trial with no attorney because he could not afford it, and was found guilty. He petitioned for writ of habeas corpus in that not having an attorney was against his constitutional rights. Courts ruled in his favor and later with an attorney was found not guilty of all charges. -
Civil Rights Bill
JFK proposes a bill to Congress ending segregation and racism in the US. THis would not being inacted until after his death in 1964. -
March on Washington
One of the most famous and largest demonstrations not only during the Civil Rights movement but in US history, This is also where the famous "I have a dream" speech form Martin Luther King Jr took place. -
University of Mississippi
James Meredith applied at the university, which sparked violent riots and protests. JFK had to order the army to come in to stop the violence and James Meredith was secretly escorted onto campus. -
Assination of a US President
John F Kennedy was shot in the head while driving thru a parade in downtown Dallas, TX. Lee Havey Oswald was being held for questioning as a suspect in the shooting, but a few days later died after being shot by Jack Ruby. -
