This was the first time there was a legal decree that allowed Catholics and Lutherans to live together in peace. This allowed Princes to either chose Catholicism or Lutheranism and allowed people to move to a region that was practicing the religion that they wished. This legislation officially ended the conflicts between the two groups.

Major period of conflicts in France between Protestants and Roman Catholics caused by the spread of Calvinism. The queen of France became more tolerant of Calvinists which angered a powerful Roman Catholic family. Partisains of this family massacred Huguenots at a congregation, and many more smaller fights came to follow. In 1576 the Huguenots were allowed freedom of worship but things were not fully settled until the Edict of Nantes. The war claimed an estimated 3 million lives.

Published by King Henry VIII and allowed for his protestant subjects to have freedom of religion. This edict was paired with Henry's conversion to Roman Catholicism. It brought an end to the Wars of Religion and was one of the first decrees of religious tolerance.

A series of wars fought for many reasons, starting with Ferdinand II attempting to force people to become Roman Catholic. Because of this, Protestant nobles rose up against him but Ferdinand came out on top after 5 years. Other leaders, seeing the easy targets in many other countries, fought and won more territories in Europe, severely altering the map. The war was ended after the Peace of Westphalia and after claiming around 8 million lives.

This treaty brought an end to the 80 years war between the Dutch and French. It gave some countries new territories and also confirmed the Peace of Augsburg. This confirmed religious freedoms and allowed for peace after it was passed.
