    Peace of Augsburg

    The Peace of Augsburg allowed the princes to chose the religion in there states. This allowed Catholicism and Lutheranism to exist within the same country, legally, without conflict. People were free to move within the kingdom to practice their religion.
  • 1562

    French Wars of Religion

    Started in 1562 and lasting until 1598 was a war between the Catholics and Huguenots in France. The war is considered the 2nd deadliest in the history of European wars. At the end of the war, the french throne converted to Catholicism.

    Bartholomew’s Day Massacre

    This was a group of assassinations directed at the Huguenots. Following this was a outbreak of Catholic church violence. This made a large turn in the French War of Religion.
  • Edict of Nantes

    Sinned by King Henry IV of France, this granted the Calvinist rights. Which they didn't have any previously. This was big because the nation of France was mostly Catholic. This Gave them rights to work in the fields and ended the war.
  • 30 Years War

    A series of wars in Central Europe that started as a battle between the Catholics and Protestants. Mainly in Germany, France
    later joined. It changed the continental power of Europe.
  • Treaty of Westphalia

    A group of treaties that ended the 30 Years War in Germany. It also ended the 80 Years War. These made the central states in Europe territorial sovereignty. Peace of westphalia was signed in Münster, Germany.
