    Peace of Augsburg

    The Peace of Augsburg was written in order to end religious struggle between the Roman Catholics and the Lutherans. The treaty was created by Charles V and the Holy Roman Emperor. This allowed later emperors to decide if Roman Catholic or Lutheranism was the religion of their state, forcing their people to be the religion of their leader unless they moved.

    French Wars of Religion

    The French Wars of Religion began after the Roman Catholics became angry of France's tolerance for the Calvinist, allowing them to practise their religion without persecution. During the war the English funded the Protestants and Spain funded the Catholics. After the war Henry IV was crowned king and converted to Catholic, then embraced both religions.

    Bartolomew's Day Massacre

    Bartolomew's Day Massacre was a large attack against the French Protestants by the Catholics during the French Wars of Religion. The attack to place in Paris, where many Protestants were killed.
  • Edict of Nantes

    The Edict of Names took action after the French Holy Wars. It named Henry IV kind and kept the rights of the French Calvinists as he was Catholic.

    30 Year War

    The 30 Year War as a religious war fought between the Protestants and the Holy Roman Catholics. The war took place in what is modern day Germany. Each religion fought to protect their religious interest in Germany because of it's fragmentation.

    Treaty of Westphalia

    The Treaty of Westphalia brought an end to the 30 Year War. This allowed for German states to decide their religion and diminished much of the Catholic's power. It was said to have created a new religious tolerance among Europe.
