Battle of Britain
The Battle of Britain was a very instrumental battle in World War II. Germany aimed to invade Great Britain, but first they intended to destroy Great Britain's Royal Air Force. Fortunately for Great Britain the German plan did not succeed. The strong defense of Great Britain against destructive air raids directed by the German air force (Luftwaffe) lasted from July through September 1940, after the fall of France. -
Operation Barbarossa
On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler took his armies eastward carrying out a massive invasion of the Soviet Union. Three great armies with over three million German soldiers, 150 divisions, and three thousand tanks traveled across the frontier into the Soviet Union territory. -
Operation Torch
Operation Torch was the Anglo-American invasion of north-west Africa in World War II. With the Soviet Union putting pressure on the United States and Britain to begin operations in Europe to relieve the pressure on the Russian forces things were put into play. The Anglo-American invasion was planned for northwestern Africa - Morocco and Algeria, territory nominally in the hands of Vichy France. -
Operation Overlord
Operation Overlord, also known as Normandy Invasion or D-Day was a big part WWII. The Allied invasion of western Europe, which was launched on June 6, 1944, with the simultaneous landing of U.S., British, and Canadian forces on five separate beachheads in Normandy, France. These landings marked the start of a long and costly campaign in north-west Europe, which ultimately convinced the Germans that defeat was inevitable. -
Yalta Conference
The major World War II Yalta Conference of the three chief Allied leaders, President Franklin D. Roosevelt of the United States, Prime Minister Winston Churchill of the United Kingdom, and Premier Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union, all met at Yalta in Crimea to plan the final defeat and occupation of Nazi Germany. With the help of the conference it had been decided that Germany would be divided into occupied zones administered by U.S., British, French, and Soviet forces. -
Battle of Berlin
The Battle of Berlin was the last major battle in Europe during World War II. It resulted in the surrender of the German army and was an end to Adolf Hitler's rule. The Battle of Berlin occurred from April 16th 1945 to May 2nd, 1945 and was fought between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany in the German capital of Berlin.
