Ernst Mach

    Many important figures of history, from science to general education, have been known to originate in the European region close to the old Czech Republic, and Mach was no different in these regards. Einstein was also born and raised in this region until he moved to the United States during the timeframe of World War II.

    For the majority of his time in school, Mach was homeschooled until around the age of 14 when he enrolled into high school and shortly after started attending the University of Vienna in Austria

    In 1860, Mach obtained his PhD in Physics and continued to spread his knowledge within the field by teaching at the University of Vienna until 1864.

    Mach's first discoveries within the Field of Science

    During the 1860s he discovered the physiological phenomenon that has come to be called Mach’s bands, the tendency of the human eye to see bright or dark bands near the boundaries between areas of sharply differing illumination.   • The history of speed ratings, from hence his name came into play

    Returning to furthering education of other individuals

    He returned to the University of Vienna and instructed inductive physics during the last few years of his instructions. Unfortunately two years after his return, he suffered a stroke and retired from his role as an instructor in 1901 and joined the Austrian Parliament.
  • One of his final papers

    Even during his retirement, Mach was still somewhat active in his research, and published a paper called “Knowledge and Error” not too long before his departure of this world.
