    Ernst Mach published his first article on Mach Bands titled “On the effect of the spatial distribution of the light stimulus on the retina”. Mach Bands are defined as “the tendency of the human eye to see bright or dark bands near the boundaries between areas of sharply differing illumination”.

  • Physiological and Geometric Space and The Science of Mechanics

    In The Science of Mechanics, published in 1883, Ernst Mach analyses absolute space and explains his view on physiological space and geometrical space. Physiological space in and unconscious creation and is tied to emotions. Geometrical space has its origins in physiological space and the intellect and is free from emotions.
    Ernst Mach’s critique of Newtonian absolute space and time inspired Albert Einstein.
