    Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on 21th July, in 1899, in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He was the first boy and the second child of his family .His father, Clarence Edmonds Hemingway, was a physician, and his mother, Grace Hall Hemingway, was a musician.

    High School

    From 1913 to 1917, Hemingway attended Oak Park and River Forest High School. He took part in a lot of sports: boxing, track and field, water polo, and football. He excelled in English classes,and with his sister Marcelline, performed in the school orchestra for two years. During his junior year he had a journalism class, with better writers submitting pieces to the school newspaper.

    He initiated in journalism when he enlisted as a volunteer in the First World War, as an ambulance driver for two months and, when he returned to United States he continued with his journalism career until moved to Paris, where he alternated with the avant-garde and he met Pablo Picasso, Ezra Pound, James Joyce, and Gertrude Stein.

    On September 3, 1921 was married with Hadley Richardson; two months later, Hemingway was hired as foreign correspondent for the Toronto Star, and the couple left for Paris. After a long period Hemingway got married two more times.

    In 1937, Hemingway agreed to report on the Spanish Civil War for the North American Newspaper Alliance (NANA), arriving in Spain in March with Dutch filmmaker Joris Ivens. Ivens, who was filming The Spanish Earth, wanted Hemingway to replace John Dos Passos as screenwriter.

    When the Second World War started, Hemingway took part as a journalist, and also took part in the Normandy landings.
    All this avalanche of events did that Hemingway until 1950 couldn't write, because he didn't have ideas to express.

    He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953, because of his novel the Old Man and the Sea.

    On october, 1954, Hemingway won the Nobel Prize in literature.
