    Amy is starting middle school. She begins to receive harder homework and her parents do not help her with it as often as they used to. She is expected to manage her own study schedule more independently than she used to in elementary school. Erikson's industry vs. inferiority stage The crisis: when a school age child begins to learn more complex tasks and is encouraged by adults towards a path of independence and confidence in completing tasks, versus feelings of shame and incompetence.
  • Amy quits her job and joins the peace corps

    Amy quits her job and joins the peace corps
    Amy is dissatisfied with her career and doesn't believe in her company's goals. She wants to work for a cause that she genuinely believes contributes to society. She quits her job and joins the Peace Corps- using her job knowledge and education to help others. Generativity vs Stagnation In this stage, people feel the need to be useful and contribute to their community. When this is not nurtured, one tends to experience feelings of unproductiveness and meaninglessness in their life.

    Amy enjoys her role as a grandmother
    Amy's older and her daughter has a child now. She was excited for the baby's birth, but it made her realize how old she is and her mortality. She's sad for a bit but then accepts and embraces her role as an involved grandma. She's excited to share her wisdom from her years of rich experience with her daughter (as a new mom) and her grandchild. Integrity vs despair Reflecting on one's life and either regretting things one did not do, or feeling at peace with one's life and accomplishments.
