    Industry vs. Inferiority (Late Childhood)
    At this stage, children are beginning to develop a sense of pride in their accomplishments and skills in which they use to perform complex tasks. If they are not encouraged, children will doubt themselves. Success will lead to competence while failure will lead to feelings of inferiority. Olivia is struggling with science. Her parents begin to help her each night with her homework and she also asks her teacher for help. She receives encouragement and praise after acing her science test.

    This stage is characterized by a need to develop a sense of self and personal identity by exploring individual independence. Teens may experiment with different roles, activities and behaviors. Those who remain unsure about their beliefs and desires will be insecure and confused. Olivia doesn't know if she wants to join any clubs or sports in high school. Her mom encourages her to attend school plays and games.
    Olivia decides to try-out for soccer and makes the team.

    In this stage, the major conflict centers on forming intimate relationships with other people. Erikson believed it was vital that people developed committed relationships with others. Success leads to strong relationships while failure results in loneliness and isolation Olivia and Brandon have been talking about marriage for a while. For their 5th anniversary, they plan a trip to Greece. While they having dinner, Brandon proposes to Olivia. She says 'yes' as she cries with tears of joy.
