Erikson's Psychosocial Theory Timeline

  • Infancy (0-1 Year)

    Infancy (0-1 Year)
On April 20, 1996 a young Nigerian girl named Abeni was born. She grew up with her mother and father always beside her caring for her and doting on her often. Abeni trusted her parents to always be there when she needed them and they continued to. This created a foundation of trust for Abeni. In Erikson's stage of Trust vs. Mistrust, the crisis is between developing trust in others and having someone to depend on and developing a sense of mistrust and having little to nobody to depend on.
  • Play Age (3-6 Years)

    Play Age (3-6 Years)
The more Abeni grew up the more she wanted to explore and discover new things about this new world. So she took it upon herself to help her mother with cooking dinner. Abeni carried a heavy bag of pumpkin seeds for stew off of the counter. She stumbled a bit and then spilled seeds all over the floor. Abeni became disappointed in herself for dropping the seeds. This represents the stage of Initiative vs. Guilt in which the crisis is a child who takes initiative feels guilt if they fail.
  • Adolescence (12-19 Years)

    Adolescence (12-19 Years)
As Abeni began to go through middle and high school she started to become more sensitive to her own image and interactions she had with other people. She occasionally compared herself to other people like any other teen would, but she kept a stable positive image of herself in regards to her own abilities and her beauty. This refers to the Erikson stage of Identity Vs. Confusion in where the crisis is an adolescent becoming confident in their own identity or becoming dysfunctional, and confused.
  • Adulthood (26-64 Years)

    Adulthood (26-64 Years)
Abeni has now become an adult, has since then graduated with her Bachelors in college, works as a nurse at a hospital and is married with children. Her working as a nurse has room for advancement and she often cares for the patients she works both physically and emotionally by listening to their problems. Being a parent to her children also brings out the empathy in her. In Erikson's stage of Generativity vs. Stagnation, the crisis is between caring and succesful and being stuck in life.
