  • Eragon finds Safira in an egg.

    When Eragon goes hunting he suddenly gets shocked by a flying stone that destroys trees and stones on its way to the ground. When he picks it up he notices that the stone is completely smooth, without any damages. The blue tone of the stone is quite magical. Later we find out that it's an egg, containing one of the last remaining dragons.
  • The egg cracks and Safira is born.

    After almost selling the beautiful egg it opens when Eragon is asleep. At first, he's unsure what to do with it. He later decides that he will keep the dragon a secret until he understands what this creature is.
  • He is attacked by ra'zacs.

    The evil leader of Alagesia Galbatorix has heard some rumours about a new dragon rider. And because the riders have incredible powers, he attempts to capture Eragon and make him his right hand. Therefore, he sends some horrific monsters called ra'zacs to find him and bring him in.
  • Eragon and Brom escapes

    One day after the ra'zacs attacked Carvahall Eragon and a wise and mystical man named Brom leaves to save Eragon and his dragon. This is about when Eragon realizes how detrimental he will be for the future of Alagesia. Meanwhile, Brom starts educating Eragon on the many arts that can be mastered as a rider.
  • Brom, Eragon and Safira meet Murtagh. Brom dies.

    After they left Carvahall, Eragon and Brom had been travelling across Alagesia, while Eragon learned more and more about how to fight as a rider. When attacked by some of Galbatorix's forces, Brom dies. Eragon would have died as well, if Murtagh hadn't save him in the last second.
  • Eragon is captured and brought to Gil'ead

    While Eragon, Safira and Murtagh try to figure out where to go next, they are attacked by urgals(horrific monsters). This time Eragon was unable to get away. He's brought to the city Gil'ead where he's drugged down and interrogated. In a desperate attempt to escape Eragon almost dies again when Murtagh and Safira come to the rescue, again.
  • Running from the king's forces.

    When the bad news about Eragon's escape reached the king, he was furious. Galbatorix sent his best troops to once again capture him. Eragon, Murtagh and Safira are chased across the continent. In Eragon's latest dreams he dreamt about the route to the rebelling group, Varden. After following his dreams for several days, he arrived at the secret entrance.
  • The arrival at Farthen Dur

    The reason to why Varden had managed to escape the mighty wrath of the king was because their city was built inside a gigantic mountain. The city, made by dwarfs, is a stunning piece of architecture. As the last dragon rider, Eragon is much needed for the resistance group to make a real threat to the king.
  • Meeting Ajihad

    After being welcomed into Varden, Eragon and Safira finally meet their mysterious leader, Ajihad. He has lead Varden through rough times with war, hunger and internal conflicts. He knows he depends on Eragon being on his side and makes sure Eragon gets all the luxuries he wants.
  • Eragon's training

    Eragon knows he one day has to fight Galbatorix if he wants to create a better life for his people. Therefore, he trains with the best soldiers in Varden every day to prepare for the vital day. He notices that his powers increase quickly.
  • Waiting for war

    One of Varden's scouts comes back exhausted and tells Ajihad about a gigantic army of urgals heading their way. All the women and children in Varden is brought out to safety in the nearest town while the men prepare for what could be the end of Varden. Their army is no match for the urgals. However, they have the dragon rider.
  • The turning point

    After a couple of days of waiting, the first attack comes. Varden's defensive lines are instantly crushed. Defeat seems inevitable. However, when Eragon manages to kill their leader, they lose all organisation and Varden strikes back. The win was needed, but it cost them many men and their hiding spot is now exposed.
  • Ajihad dies

    Ajihad, Murtagh and ten soldiers chase the remainings of the urgals. Minutes before they arrive back at Farthen Dur, they're ambushed. Ajihad is killed and Murtagh is kidnapped. The loss of their leader causes a hostile situation. Who's now going to be Varden's leader?
  • Ajihad's funeral

    Ajihad was the most important man in Varden, and his death caused sadness and havoc. He is buried in a gigantic grave amongst the other great people of Varden.
  • Nasuada: The new leader

    Together, the dwarfs, men and elves decide that Nasuada, Ajihad's daughter, will be the new leader of Varden. She is a young, beautiful woman who strikes everyone as capable and wise. Therefore, no one questions her as their new leader. Eragon swears faithfulness to his new leader, which is well received by the people.
  • Eragon and Safira leaves

    To complete his training, Eragon must travel to the empire of the elves, hidden in an enormous forest. The trip will be dangerous, but the elves' knowledge about fighting and magic is too vital to be overseen. The book ends with Eragon saying goodbye to the people of Varden, before starting on a journey that could be his last.
