Connor is ordered to be Unwound

This takes place at the beginning of the book when Connor goes snooping in his dad's office and finds that there are only three tickets to the Bahamas and none for him. He continues to look and then finds the Unwind order without his parents knowing. Connor tries to make his parents regret their choice by acting super good but they don't relent and they still order to unwind him.

Connor and Risa meet and take Lev

This is the part of the story right after the bus crashed because of Connor and Connor runs to the car to save Lev from being Unwound. Juvey Cops are trying to shoot them with tranqs the whole time but Connor steals a gun and tranqs the cop chasing them. Risa runs and joins Connor when they realize that they need to work together to get away safely. Lev is kept as a hostage and once they figure out he is a tithe, they want him to be safe whether he wants to be Unwound or not.

Connor takes the storked baby

Connor and friends were in town getting supplies when Connor hears someone nearby say that they got storked again. This causes a flashback to when they got storked and passed it off to someone else. Connor doesn't want the same thing to happen to this baby so he takes it runs onto the bus with it. Risa is really mad at him because now they are way easier to identify and they have to take care of the baby.

Lev slips away and calls the police

This is the part of the story where Lev turns them in and calls the Juvey cops on them. When the police show up, Lev has been talking to Pastor Dan over the phone and he told him to run away from being unwound instead of accepting it. Lev is super confused because Pastor Dan was the one who told him unwinding was a good thing. Risa and Connor don't want to join back up with him since he turned them in. A teacher tells them of a safe place to go and they run away from the school.

Graveyard Pt. 1

This part is where Risa and Connor are taken to a warehouse where they spend time with Roland. Roland is a big bully who tries to bully his way to being a leader. He tries manipulating Connor into fighting him so that he can take him out. Then they are moved to the Graveyard by plane, where Roland gets a job as helicopter assistant. The Admiral, who runs the place, takes a certain interest in Connor and asks him to help find who killed the Goldens, his group who helped him run the place.

CyFi

CyFi is a kid that Lev meets up with after splitting from Connor and Risa and he has a part of the brain of an Unwind. This brain part has memories of Joplin, so Lev and CyFi travel to Joplin to find what the brain wants to find out. They go there and find that the old kid liked to steal stuff and that was passed on to CyFi. CyFi prides himself on being honest, so stealing bothers him a lot. Lev helps him find his stash and clean it all up, which is really difficult for him but helps CyFi a lot.

Graveyard Pt. 2

This is when Lev arrives after going around with CyFi and becomes a clapper after all the mental issues CyFi gave him. The Admiral is still trying to find out who killed the Goldens and Connor is trying to find evidence that Roland did it, because that is who he suspects. The kids think that the Admiral killed Roland, which made the kids so mad that they riot and try to break the Admiral's plane and kill him. The Admiral has a heart attack, so Roland has to fly him to the hospital.

Chop Shop

Once they get to the hospital, Roland tries to turn the rest of the Unwinds at the Graveyard in to the Juvey cops to get a big reward. The cops take them all to a harvest camp in Arizona. They have a band there that Risa joins to play piano for and they tell her about the Chop Shop, or the place where they do the unwind surgery. Here we see Roland's point of view as he is unwound and how it feels. Lev is also there and his Clapper friends decide to blow it all up.

Chop Shop Explosion

The clappers infiltrate the Chop Shop to try to stop Unwinding and spread chaos at the same time. One of them is shot with a tranq gun and goes off, so the other does too. Now Lev is the only one who hasn't, but instead of clapping, he decides to go in to save Connor, Risa and many others from the wreckage. He eventually stops because he realizes he could go off at any time. Connor gets severely hurt in the explosion and has to have surgery to get an new eye and arm.

Aftermath

Connor wakes up after the explosion and finds that he has a new arm from an Unwind and it is actually Roland's. He finds Risa and she is paralyzed from the waist down because she didn't want to support unwinding by getting a new set of legs. Risa sees Rolands arm and gets nervous, but decides that it is ok since Connor is in control now. Lev is getting de-clapper-fied and finds that CyFi has came out and made a big deal about Unwinding, which is making people mad about how people are unwound.
