    The East India Company was created by Queen Elizabeth I in the early 1600. She did this because she wanted to develop a trade between Britain and India. Britain had at that time a very good market with a lot of stuff so it was understandable that she made this decision. So they had to communicate with eachother and that's when they used English.

    The Triangel Trade - The Carribean

    "The Triangel Trade" was a trade between Africa, America and Europe. They were mostly trading slaves,sugar and textiles. Africa traded slaves to America, America traded sugar and cotton to Europe and Europe traded textils and rum to Africa.

    Slaves from Africa - The Caribbean
    In the middle of year 1600, over 50 000 slaves were transported from Africa to America (yearly). Slaves were a big part of the Traingel Trade and had mostly dark-coloured skin. In the late 17th century a number of Caribbean slaves were transported to the south-east of the United States to work on the large cotton plantations. Slaves were later transported back to the Caribbean. They brought a new form of English with them called Creole that was spoken by sailors and slaves on the ship.

    Cristopher Columbus discovered The Caribbean Islands in the late 1400, but England made their involvement in the Caribbean in year 1700. England took over a few islands such as Barbados and Jamaica. Many people from England and english-speakers moved to these islands and that is why many islands have English as a main language today. But also because slaves on ships used english words which they mixed with their native language.

    Criminals from England - Australia

    In the end of the 18th centuary to the middle of th 19th centuary, England used to ship criminals to Australia as a punishment for their crimes. That is also a main reason why English is the main language of Australia today.

    "The first Fleet" was a group of eleven ships that transported criminals from England, Portsmouth to Australia in 1767. The meaning of the action was to create a penaltycolony in Australia were English criminals could be transported to. Two of the ships were warships, Three of them were Storageships and the rest of the ships consisted of criminals. The criminals were mostly men who had comitted crimes, but also guards and seamen were on the ships. The ships arrived 20th of January in 1788.

    English probably came to Australia because of "The First Fleet". English people became a part of their population and that is how the language spread across Australia and became Australias main language. Before, Australia had 250 different spoken languages in their country which made it very hard to communicate with eachother. That is why Australia really needed a base language and so English was a perfect fit.
  • Different types of English in India

    Mostly you only hear 3 languages which are Bengali, Hindi and English. Bengali is a local language while Hini is the national language. English is more often used on street signs and in shops. Binglish is a mix of English and Bengali. Binglish is often used in the media but also in advertisement and Hinglish is a mix of English and Hindi.

    English came to India through the East India Company that used English as a trading language. There was a difference between English and Indian English like some words in Britain meant one thing and they mean but in India, they meant something else. So that is why a special dictionary was made to explain these words, called Hobson Jobson. Some people were positive about speaking English in India but some people thought it was a bad thing.
