  • Brainstorming and Research For the First Cellphone

Marty Cooper (Motorola Executive) told his engineers to drop everything and focus on figuring out how to compact the components of trunk-sized car transceivers into something that could be held in your hand. April, 3 1973, two hand built phones were announced.

Within 10 years, Motorola used the designs they had come up with, but they changed them so they could be mass manufactured. Rudy Krolopp, a legendary design master, said "Each time we had a problem and solved it, we had to change the design."

In 1983 the first mobile phone came out. It was called the Motorola DynaTAC 800x. It costed around $4,000 and lasted for 30 minutes before dying.
The problem that the DynaTAC 800x solved was communication was not always able to move with a person. The invention of the mobile phone allowed people to take it will them and use different cell towers while on a call.

    Improvements Continue

Since the first Motorola DynaTAC 800x was released, many improvements have occurred since then. Today's phones are no longer 2lbs and the size a footlong sandwich. They are now more affordable for every person to be able to purchase as well. Companies continue to release new cellphones each year with more bells and whistles. It is excited to think about what new innovations will be made next!
