Under N for nursery rhymes is where my older siblings used to read to me. I recall reading the nursery rhymes myself once I could read.

    Dick and Jane Book Readers
These were the textbooks we learned to read from. I recall using these from about 1st grade until 3rd. I remember thinking this is the way 'real' families lived.
  • The Catcher in the Rye

    The Catcher in the Rye
This was required reading in high school. I would say this is when I feel in love with reading and realized that I could actually be transported into another time and place.
  • To Kill a Mockingbird

    To Kill a Mockingbird
High school was really a time to explore classic books and authors. This one was no exception.
  • Biko

    Biko
This was a true story about apartheid and a man named Stephen Biko. I became interested in him when my favorite musician, Peter Gabriel, wrote a song about him. I even named my cat Biko.
  • On the Road

    On the Road
A lot of my guy friends were reading this book and so I wanted to know what the interest was. I could see why they liked it but I just imagined a girls trip and it had the same effect for me.

My son was born on this day and so was I, again. I was raised Catholic and strayed away from my faith only to come back home.
  • The Five People You Meet in Heaven

The Five People You Meet in Heaven
My mother passed away unexpectedly and fairly young. I was drawn to this book by the title alone. Glad I picked up this book because Mitch Albom has become one of my favorite authors.

I never read a lot of Dr. Suess books when I was younger. Some of my teachers may have read some to me but I think I always thought it did not make sense. Now that I am older, I see the value, this is one of my favorite and will give to my son when he graduates high school. It's a tear jerker in those terms.

I did an author study last semester and right now I'm into picture books and this is one of my favorite authors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsgLaX_6bOY
