    Roman slaves revolt and set Rome on fire. They come to Julius's estate and try to burn it down. Julius's slaves and servants stay loyal to him as they fight to defend the estate. Gaius, Marcus, Alexandria, also fight to defend the estate. Julius was killed by a slave during this revolt, leaving Gaius to be the master of the estate.

    Gaius and Marcus accompany Marius and his legion on his march to Rome. A march is a parade through the city celebrating the success of an army. Marius's march is halted to a stop by Sulla, who then gives Marius one month until they trial who is going to have the power in Rome.

    When Gaius and Marcus fight Marius's estate guard for not letting Renius in, they are punished. Their punishment is a use for entertainment in the estate by fighting and boxing Fulvio and Decidus. Gaius defeated Decidus, and Marcus put up a great fight against Fuvlvio, but did not defeat him!
  • Renius and Marcus Depart

    Renius and Marcus Depart
    Marcus and Renius leave Rome to be stationed as a soldier at the Fourth Macedonia in Greece. Gaius is saddened that he has to tackle Rome alone without Marcus.
  • The Triumph

    The Triumph
    Marius brings Gaius to the Senate for the vote. The vote is to see which legion is going to fight Mithridates army and which legion will guard Rome. Sulla's legion is picked to fight the war and Marius's was decided to stay in Rome.
  • Marcus at Sea

    Marcus at Sea
    Marcus and Renius travel to Greece by a ship called the Lucidae. Marcus befriends Peppis, a slave who works on the ship. The sailors beat him, and in return, Marcus breaks a sailor's arm. To stay on the ship Marcus has to take the place of the sailor, while he recovers. After a month, they arrive in Greece and Marcus decides to adopt Peppis.

    Gaius and Cornelia Get Married
    Gaius meets Cornelia, who is the daughter of a wealthy man named Cornelius Cinna. Gaius falls in love with Cornelia knowing that he can never love Alexandria. They get married quickly, because Gaius has to fight for Marius's army. Gaius changes his name to Julius to honor his father.

    During Marcus's travels, he defeats a group of blue savages that were threatening his legion. He gains the respect of his commander and signs a contract to be promoted to Rome for the reason of seeing Gaius, who has fled to Egypt.

    Sulla's army defeats Mithridates and return back to Rome only to find out that they can not return. Marius has locked them out hoping he would gain the power of the city. Sulla had spies in Rome for him and killed Marius. A battle begins and Marius's soldiers defend their city and their great leader. Julius (Gaius) is captured by Sulla, but is let go. He flees to Egypt with his companions Tubruk and Cabera.
  • Attack of Suetonius

    Attack of Suetonius
    Gaius and Marcus are attacked by Suetonius while they are playing in the woods. Suetonius is fourteen years old, and Gaius and Marcus's neighbor. While in the woods Suetonius and his friends beat Gaius and Marcus, and tie them to a tree upside down. Later on, the boys gain revenge of Suetonius.
  • Blood Brothers

    Blood Brothers
    Gaius and Marcus become blood brothers. They cut their thumbs , press them together, then put them in the Roman soil. This symbolizes them becoming brothers and Marcus beoming a part of Gaius's family estate.

    Renius, the most noble and successful gladiator, begins to train the boys into becoming soldiers when they are ten years old. The training is very harsh, and the boys almost experience death during their tasks!

    While training with Renius, Gaius and Marcus notice Alexandria, who is a beautiful girl that is a slave. Renius realized that the boys were focused on her, and whipped her. Both of the boys fall in love with Alexandria as she becomes one of the main characters in this novel!
  • Arrival in Rome

    Arrival in Rome
    Gaius, Marcus, and company in Rome to meet with his uncle Marius, who is powerful in this city. Many of the characters have goals for themselves in Rome. Alexandria wants to buy her freedom, and Marcus wants to become a legendary soldier. They are welcome by Marius and Metella, who cares for the boys deeply. Marius teaches Gaius the politics of Rome and takes him into the Senate!
