Elephant Run
Nick arrives in Burma on a hot and blistering day. His mother sent him to go live at his father’s teak plantation, Hawks Nest until it’s safer in England. As Nang, one of his dad’s workers and his daughter Mya bring him to the plantation, he learns about how Nang has been working for his father since he was born, and how Mya was born 3 weeks after him. Nick learns that his mother was scared of the snakes, and afraid that he would be eaten by a tiger before they moved to England.

The Japanese bombed Rangoon. Nang, Nick and Mya were listening to the mahouts then finally he steps out and starts talking. The others just stopped talking about all the bad stuff about Mr. Freestone. . Then they start to talk about if they will fight the Japanese when they come to take over the city. Nicks father gives nick a knife with an ivory handle, and Nick gives his dad a diary. Next, his father has to leave to meet Indaw, and Nick asks if he can go but his dad says he cant.

Nick is running and bumps into a monk, that is probably Hilltop. Next, he gives the monk his breakfast, because monks aren’t allowed to eat anything so they have to eat food that strangers give them.Mya shows up at the Hawks Nest after being told to show Nick around. She knocks but he doesn’t answer so she thinks he is still asleep.Next, while waiting for Nick, Mya remembers that she was supposed to check on her elephant named Miss Pretty so she goes to do that.

After Nick was attacked by Hannibal he went up to the Hawk’s Nest. The pain going through his ribs is unbearable, so he filled the tub full of hot water to keep his muscles from tightening, before he went to have a tour with Mya. But instead of going to the village she takes Nick to check on Miss Pretty, who is gone because a mahout took her. Then they meet Tin the elephant trainer and Tin teaches Nick on how elephants are raised in Burma and what jobs they do.

Next they all rode through the forest, and Mr. Freestone told nick about going to India. As they got farther in they were getting scratched from the branches. The herd was a total of nine elephants, and Jackson plans to add to it with his tamed elephants.Lastly, they let Hannibal go and they start for home. Since Hilltop needs to make sure the island can hold more elephants, he wished Mya and Nick good-bye, thinking they would be going to Australia.

When they are trying to go to sleep Nick goes for a swim. While hes in the water the Japanese come and capture everyone except for Nick. Next Nick is trying to get to the snag where a dead monkey is hiding. While Nick is Hiding an Japanese soldier finds him and captures him. In the beginning all of Hawks Nest is going to sleep, but Nick decides to go to for a swim. While he is swimming the Japanese ambushed the village.

First Hilltop walks past nick in the Colonel’s garden he whispered, “Check the natshin.” Then when Hilltop was talking to Sonji and distracting him, Nick went over to the natshin. What he found there was powder blue letter on the table. Right then Nick knew that his dad was still alive without even reading the letter.He remembers he can’t really hide it because Bukong well search his room for anything that might be suspicious.

Next they get into a huge room behind the library; they use this room to eavesdrop on the Japanese. They sneak into the library because they see that the guard is sleeping on duty so they have time to get in and out. When they hear the colonel yelling at the guard, they run back into the fireplace before the Colonel can see them. When Nick finds out that the colonels’ son is sick, he wants to get away from the camp.

Nick watches for the guard to make sure it safe to take bolts out. As he loosens the bolts, Mya thinks he overslept so she goes to check on Nick. Bukong beats the bed with his bamboo cane because he thinks Nick is sleeping until he stops and pulls of the covers and finds Nick Is missing.First Hilltop tries to stop Nagayoshi from calling off the search, but he will not call it off. Next Magwe tries to send himself off to one of the camps, while Bukong goes on about becoming rich.

Then Hilltop comes back to the Hawks Nest, and Nick tells Hilltop his idea of turning himself in to save his father, but Hilltop comes up with a better idea so Nick doesn’t get beaten or killed.Hilltop thinks he collected a lot of good information on how to break Indaw and Nick’s father out of the labor camp, and they start getting ready to escape.First, it was one of the last days Mya and Nick would be in the tunnels, yet they came to a stop when they found someone in the tunnels.

During their journey, Hilltop tells Nick and Mya a bunch of stories including the story about how Hannibal got attacked.When nobody says yes or no, the Japanese burn down a house.First, Hilltop told Indaw that Mya was alive, and updated Indaw about everything that happened sense he was sent to the training camp.After that, Hilltop and Indaw witnessed the roll call being taken in Jackson’s camp, and two people were pronounced dead from malaria.

Then he meets up with Kya Lei on the way back, who says he knows people who will be glad after he informs them about the fact that Nick is still alive. Nick then confesses that he went to the camp, and saw his father burying a dead prisoner with Sonji as the guard.Hilltop goes back over to Indaw’s hut, and finds that Captain Moto and Bukong are there searching for Nick and Mya.

Bernard had landed by parachute near Hawk's Nest five days earlier to destroy the airfield and to find Nick, if it was even possible. He promises to take everyone to safety, and Hilltop points out that Jackson cannot be found anywhere near Burma.The Japanese would realize Sonji had something to do with Jackson's escape and execute him. Hilltop also refuses the offer to travel to India to safety, stating he will die in Burma and that he cannot leave Hannibal.

Also Hilltop and nick see Nicks father getting buried, and they think his father is dead, but he actually wasn’t. Then they went up to his grave and dug him out, so he could breathe because he was still alive.They quickly mounted Hannibal, and started on a 5 hour journey to get as far away from the camp as they could.Hannibal hits the jeep, crushing Captain Moto; Bukong tries to get away but Hannibal catches him, ramming his tusk into Bukong’s back.
