The water near the islands is the largest marine areas in Europe and is the most spectacular area on Earth for Marine biodiversity. The ecosystem of the island is very diverse as well. It includes coastal matorral, thermophilous juniper forest, evergreen woodlands and pine forest. Many species of flora and fauna live on the island along with the El Hierro giant lizard.

    The Corona del Viento Power Plant is a closed loop wind and water system. It includes five windmills and two water reservoirs. It is supposed to provide islanders with daily electricity.
