    My kindergarten teacher introduced books and reading to me
    When I was in kindergarten my teacher inspired me to read and write often. In addition, because of all her help, I was also inspired to become a teacher, because of her.

    Parents read to me
    My parents would ensure to read to me every night which introduced me to the skill of reading. Once I was able to read on my own, my parents would have me read and write every day after school to increase my skills.

    After I learned how to read, and write, I wanted to teach my little brother! Considering I have always wanted to become a teacher this allowed me to practice. However, considering my little brother has ADHD it was difficult to teach him how to read in turn I became very frustrated with reading itself.

    I became a class helper for students who had difficulties with reading
    Considering I was pretty advanced in reading and writing, my teacher allowed me to assist my peers, as needed. This, in turn, caused me to enjoy reading again. This also aided me in teaching my brother how to read while using different techniques.

    Teacher would hold spelling bee competitions
    One of my teachers would hold spelling bee competitions, which in turn got me into reading/writing/ and spelling again. When I ended up winning one I found out how beneficial the skill of reading was.

    When I started high school this was the first time I was introduced to content-area textbooks. Considering these textbooks consisted of a different vocabulary than I was used to, my reading skills were not as useful. However, I soon got the hang of it.

    During high school was also where I began reading for fun. My friends presented a book series that really caught my eye, which in turn enabled me to discover a whole other side of reading I did not know about.

    Soon after finding out my high school had a book club, I joined as soon as possible!! While in this book club I began to look forward to reading everything!

    When I started college for the first time, out of high school I was not prepared to read so much. Because of all the reading I have done for my classes in the past few years, I would say this is what really increased my reading capabilities.

    Being in college for the last few years I have noticed just how grateful I am to have had such wonderful teachers when it came to reading and writing.
