    This case mandated that schools must provide supplemental services needed for children to attend school at no cost to the parents.
  • PARC v Pennsylvania court case

    This case mandated that states cannot deny mentally handicapped children access to free education.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation Act and Section 504

    This act prohibits discrimination against students with disabilities for federal school funding. It defines appropriate education, and grants 504 plans for students.
  • Educational Amendments Act

    This act gives students and families the right to due process in special education classes. It gives federal funding for gifted and talented students.
  • Education for all Handicapped Children Act

    This act defines LRE (least restrictive environment) and IEP (individualized education program). It requires free and appropriate education for students with disabilities.
  • Hudson v Rowley court case

    This case set the precedent for FAPE (Free Appropriate Public Education). Schools must provide sufficient, but not the BEST possible education.
  • Education of Handicapped Act Amendments

    This act made it law for students aged 3-5 with disabilities to have a free and appropriate education. It also provided early intervention programs for children ages birth to 2 years old with disabilities.

  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

    This act expanded special education services to include social work and rehabilitation. It also ensured due process in education and confidentiality of student information. It created bilingual education programs and transition programs to help students get jobs after high school.
  • IDEA Amendment

    This act provided mediation to resolve differences related to special education in schools. It made general education teachers part of IEP teams. It required that students with disabilities take state mandated tests. It created behavior management plans. It ensured that students with disabilities could receive services even if they were expelled from school
  • IDEA Improvement Act

    This act set higher standards for special education and teacher certifications. It increased funding to early intervention services.
