  • First Public School Kindergarten starts in St. Louis

    Susan Blow founded the first publicly-funded Kindergarten at Des Peres School in Carondelet, MO. By 1883 every public school in St. Louis had Kindergarten.
  • HEAD START LAUNCHED.

    Lyndon B. Johnson officially announces the Head Start Program. Head Start launched in the summer of 1965, provided to 560,000+ families across American.
  • National Association of Family Child Care

    NAFCC was started in 1982 and established accreditation in 1988 for family care/group care homes to become a member of. Available for providers who meet the child care standards in their state.
  • Even Start Established

    This program offers grants to support family literacy programs. Provides programs for low-income families with parents eligible under the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act and their children from birth to 7 years old.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    Signed into law by George W. Bush. NCLB Act included Title 1 provision applying to disadvantaged students. The Act required states to develop assessments in basic skills.
  • Operation Military Child Care

    This program was launched to help provide child care for deployed military members' children while they are deployed.
  • Preschool for All Initiative

    High quality learning programs help level the playing field for children from lower-income families. This initiative made it possible for all children to be able to attend preschool.
  • Every Student Succeeds Act

    President Obama signed this bipartisan measure to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. This is the National educational law and long standing commitment to equal opportunity for all students.
