  • Australopithecus Afarensis

    Australopithecus Afarensis
Australopithecus Afarensis also know as Southern Ape lived in Africa 3-4 million years ago. Southern Ape stood about 3 feet tall and had ape-like features such as a round forehead and a jaw that stuck out. These hominds had no tools. They were bipeds but were not fully bipedal because they also crawled on four feet. However, walking on two feet was easier for them to gather and carry items.

  • Homo Habilis

    Homo Habilis
The Homo Habilis also know as Handy Man had lived 2-1.5 milion years ago. Handy Men were located in Africa. Homo Habilis was taller than Australopithecus. Their brain was twice the size of the Southern Ape. They had some tools such as scrapers, clubs, and knives. Since their brain was twice the size they were able to make some complex tools.
  • Homo Erectus

    Homo Erectus
Homo Erectus also know as Upright Man lived from 1.8-200,000 B.C. Upright Men were the first to migrate out of Africa to Asia, and Europe. They were taller than Handy Man and had twice the brain power. They had tools such as hand axes, fire, and spears. They could build shelter out of nature and could make better tools. These Upright Men would live in groups so they could protect each other.
  • Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis

    Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis
Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis, also know as Neanderthals lived 230,000-30,000 years ago. They migrated from Africa to Asia, and Europe. Neanderthals had large brains and were tall standing about 5 feet with strong bones. Therefore, they were good walkers and runners. Their tools included: scrapers, arrows, and knives. They had the ability to make complex tools. Additionally, these hominds had a complex language. They could talk unlike the other hominds who could not.
  • Homo Sapiens Sapiens

    Homo Sapiens Sapiens
Homo Sapiens Sapiens also know as Early Modern Humans, lived in 35,000-12,000 B.C. Archeologists found their bones in Australia, and we know that they migrated to Europe and Asia. They stood about 6 feet tall and were strong and smart. Early Humans made needles to sew, a spear thrower used for killing prey, and bow and arrows. As a result, their great ability to make complex tools allowed them many more ways to use them.
