    The first of the hominids was the Australopithecus Afarensis lived mostly in Africa. A group of these called Lucy the best example, Lucy did not live very long because they did not know how to build tools. Therefore they could not hunt. They lived 3-4 million years ago. They were not very tall. They had hunched backs and their hands dragged on the ground. They were about 3.2-3.2 feet tall. They had small brains

    Homo Habilis or the Handy Man lived about 2 million years ago. The Homo Habilis lived in Africa. These hominids were the height of an average fifth grader. They used bones as digging sticks and rocks as cutting tools. This allowed them to live a longer life. They had large ridges above their eyes and had a jaw that sticks out.

They were the first group to migrate out of to Africa to Eastern Asia and Europe. They were about 5.5 feet tall. And not as harry as the Homo Habilis. Their faces were rounder and smoother than the Homo Habilis. They were much stronger They made Axe’s out of of stone to hunt. They were the first to use fire to cook meat and keep warm.

    Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis or the Neanderthals lived in Africa, East Asia and Europe 230,000 to 30,000 years ago. The stood about 5-6 feet tall. They used scrapers for peeling off skin, knives for cutting meat, and spears for hunting. They had thick bones and a ridge over their eyes, but also very human like. They are believed to be the first hominid to hunt and travel in groups.
