  • Jean Jacques Rousseau

    Jean Jacques Rousseau
    He believed that the nature of children will unfold as a result of development. Also that educators should match their practices to the students levels and abilities. When we make a decision on what and how to teach, it should be appropriate for each child.
  • Maria Montessori

    Maria Montessori
    Maria organizes school for young children of families who lived in tenement housing in Rome. Her methods is cuurently being used in over 4000 early childhood programs.
  • John Amos Comenius

    John Amos Comenius
    He introduced the first picture book for children, "The World in Pictures." He believed that education should begin in the early years.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    The Soviet Union launched the Worlds first satelite called Sputnick. This resulted in scientific discoveries. These discoveries impacted how we think about education and how we teach children.
  • National Defense Education Act

    Provides funding for those enrolling in colleges and universities. It also provided federal help to foreign language scholars, area study centers, and engineering students.
  • Economic Oppurtunity Act

    It was passed as part of President Johnsons war on Poverty. Its purpose was to eliminate poverty and expand educational oppurtunities. It provided for the beginning of headstart in 1965. The EOA was then updated to the Head Start Act of 1981.
  • Elemantary and Secondary Education Act

    The act serves to fully fund primary and secondary education. It also helps with money to educate children from low income families also known as Title I. Its also holds schools accountable and increase equality.
  • Education for all Handicap Children Act

    Any school that accepts federal funding must provide one free meal for any student with physical or mental disability. Public schools are to evaluate the handicap child and then get with the parents to come up with a plan that would emulate a child without a disability.
  • Head Start Act

    Head start is one of the longest running programs. It addresses the stystemic poverty. It provides services to low income families and children such as health and nutrition.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    Requires all schools to give a standardized test annually to all students. School that use Title I funding must show progress when comparing tests to those that took it the year before.
