  • Mexico loses California, New Mexico and Arizona

  • The sinking of the USS Maine

    On February 15, 1898, an unknown explosion sank the USS Maine in the Cuba harbor killing 266 of the 354 crew members. This led to a naval siege of Cuba and a declaration of war.
