A.K.A. the draft act, which allowed the US government to recruit troops in order to join WW1. After the war ended this act was cancelled. The number of troops required to join the war far exceeded the number of troops that the US had. The lack in military participation was not ideal when preparing for war, so the draft was created to randomly select soldiers for war.

While WW1 killed 16 million Influenza killed over 50 million people. The illness came in two waves, once in the spring killing only a few people and the second time in the fall.
