He attempts to flee the scene but Mr. Enfield, a nearby witness, makes Hyde write a check in order to compensate for his actions.

    A maid sitting in her window witnesses Mr. Hyde beat Mr. Carew to death with a cane. Mr. Utterson catches wind of this and takes the police to where Hyde had been seen on multiple occasions but no trace is found of him.

    Dr. Jekyll runs out of potions however he discovers that Hyde's weakness is that he is afraid to die so he uses this against him in order to transform back to sanity. One night, Jekyll's butler notices that he has not come out of his lab in awhile and seems missing. The butler suspects that it is Hyde's doing so he breaks into the room and finds Hyde dead on the floor along with a note that explains how Jekyll and Hyde are indeed the same person.
