  • Fredrick Griffith

Frederick Griffith discovered R strain and S strain. He injected it into mice and saw that the S strain killed the mice but the R strain didn't. However, he did find that heat killed S strain did not kill the mice but the heat killed S strain combined with R strain did kill the mice. His connection with other scientists was that Avery tried to answer a question raised by griffiths results.
  • Oswald Avery

    Oswald Avery
Oswald Avery used Griffiths discoveries to do his own research and he found out that DNA controls the characteristics of organisms. (DNA is the genetic material) he found this out by inactivating the protiens in R strain (this was deadly to the mice). With this he then ruled out protiens. His discovery was very important but it was not widley accepted at first.
  • Erwin Chargaff

    Erwin Chargaff
He discovered that the concentration of adenine was always about the same as the thymine. Same with the guanine and cytosine. The importance of these rules were not revealed until watson and crick discoverd the stucture of DNA.
  • Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase

    Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase
Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase made their discoveries in 1952. They discovered that indeed, DNA was comprised of genetic material. Before their discovery, most scientists assumed that proteins were the components that carried genetic material. The confirmation that it was DNA that carried genetic material paved the way for other scientists to advance in genealogy, forensic science and the study of genetics to determine inherited diseases. After their experiment, they determined that a protectiv
  • Rosalind Franklin

    Rosalind Franklin
In 1952, Rosalind Franklin discovered many clues to the structure of DNA. She used a technique called X-ray diffraction. She aimed a X-ray beam at DNA samples and recorded the pattern of the X-rays on film. She found that the strands of DNA are twisted around each other like the coils of a spring. She also found that the angle of the X suggests that there are two stands in the structure and that the nitrogenous bases are near the center of the molecule. Her clues got scientist closer to finding
  • Watson and Crick

    Watson and Crick
Watson and Crick discovered that DNA exists in the form of a three-dimensional double helix in 1953. Crick and Watson used the X-ray diffraction results of Raymond Gosling and Rosalind Franklin, given to them by Gosling, Franklin, and Maurice Wilkins, Watson and Crick together developed a model for a helical structure of DNA. This discovery is a very important in the DNA world. Watson and Crick were helped by scientists Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins. Watson overheard Wilkins talking abou
