  • Frederick Griffith

    Frederick Griffith
Fredrick Griffith, a Brittish scientist, tried to figure out how bacteria made people sick. He encountered the fact that rough shaped bacteria was harmless, but smooth shaped caused pneumonia. He discovered that heat killed smooth bacteria mixed with harmless rough bacteria still caused rats to die. This concluded that the live rough bacteria must have gotten some genes of the dead smooth bacteria, making them harmful. This expirement would helped oswald avery in his expirements.
  • Oswald Avery

    Oswald Avery
Oswald Avery re did Griffith's expirement to discover that DNA is what passes genetic information from one generation to the next, by treating the heat-killed smooth bacteria with certain extracts to get rid of certain things, until he discovered that once he destroyed the DNA the rough bacteria did not become harmful once mixed with the heat-killed smooth bacteria. This discovery would lead to the hershey chase expirement.

He discovered that the number of adenine bases were equal to the number of thymine bases, and the number of cytosine bases were equal to the number of guinine in any DNA. He also discovered that the DNA composition was different from one speccies to another. This would later help Watson and crick come up with an accurate model of the DNA along with franklin for the double helix shape.
  • Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase

    Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase
These two conducted an expirement that requied a bateriaphage to find if it injects its DNA to cells or injects proteins or lipids into a cell. To do this they used radioactive material that only sticks on DNA and another to stick on proteins. They discovered that the radioactive material showed up in the cell which indicates that the DNA was injected. This ensured that DNA was where genetic information is stored opening new doors for scientists.
  • Watson and Crick

    Watson and Crick
They published their discoveries of the molecular structure of DNA, or double helix. This discovery has lead to the manipulatoin on DNA in plants to genetically modify them.
  • Rosalind Franklin

    Rosalind Franklin
She had a crucial contributions to the stucture of DNA. She discovered the double helix stucture through x-rays taken. This discovery was stolen by watson and crick. Watson had seen the x-ray pictures withough franklin knowing, so she was not acknowledged for the discovery until after her death.
