Horace Mann lead the Common School Movement in the 1830s to 1840s. He fought for a free public education for every child in the United States regardless of social class, religion, gender, ethnicity, or country or origin. -

Was a decision by U.S. Supreme Court that upheld the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities as long as the segregated facilities were equal in quality "separate but equal". -

This movement involved learning the persons IQ. This was important because we now could tell if a student needed more help and what classes to put them in -

This movement made it so everyone could go to school together no matter what their race is. -
National Defense Education Act
This provided funding to United States education institutions at all levels. This helped Student want to go into education after school and was made to compete with other countries. -
Head Start Program
Was made for preschool kids that came from a low income household and provided them with their health and psychological needs -
Title IX
This law made it illegal to discriminate against student or teachers based on their sex. Before this law Women were very limited. -
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
This act allowed free education for students with disabilities.It provided services for them to help them become more equal. -
Standards Movement
The movement began because of the Nation at Risk Report and made the teacher have the student reach a standard. -
No Child Left Behind
The point of this was improving the students success through standardized testing which they would have every year. This would show the progress of the student and also keep the school accountable for the students scores.
