Iraq invades Kuwait
Iraq's leader (Saddam Hussein) ordered the attack and invasion of Kuwait with hopes of acquiring the nation's large oil reserves. Iraq also owed a large debt to Kuwait. Iraq doing this would cancel out this debt while also expanding Iraqi power in the middle east. This action is what started the Persian Gulf war. -

When word of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait reached the U.S, our secretary of defense (Chaney) and general Shwarkopf were scrambling to figure out what to do as soon as possible. They met up with the king of Saudi Arabia and discussed their plans. -

U.S. On The Offensive
By the end of September, there were almost 200,000 U.S troops in Kuwait. This was more than enough to defend against any Iraqi attacks. The problem was, that there were still a lot of Iraqi forces inside of Kuwait. President Bush had to figure out a way to get these Iraqi forces out of Kuwait. He sent an additional 140,000 troops to deal with the remaining Iraqi military force. -

Air Attack
On the morning of January 17, allied forces began the first phase of Operation Desert Storm: the attack on Iraq. American forces began to destroy radar stations situated on the border of Iraq. Next, they attacked Iraqi anti-aircraft defenses. After that was done, they started bombing Iraq. -
Attack on Al Khafji
Two weeks after the U.S. air attacks, Iraq attacked the Saudi town of Al Khafji (eight miles south of the Kuwait border). Even while under massive air attacks from American forces they held the town. Not for long tho, as Saudi forces quickly took back the town. -
Ground Assault Begins
Allied forces began to cross the borders into Kuwait. Iraqi forces had suffered many casualties from American air attacks the previous weeks so they were very weak. American forces began to attack Iraq's strongest points when they least expected it. We took Iraq completely by surprise. -
Ground Assault day 2
Allied forces slowly began leaking into Kuwait and attacking Iraq wherever they could. -
Ground Assault day 3
This day held the largest tank battle in history. The American tanks completely demolished the tank forces of the Republican Guard. American forces didn't lose a single tank during this battle. Iraqi forces began to retreat. Allied aircraft forces cut off the retreat. We destroyed all their vehicles and made them retreat on foot. Allied troops liberated Kuwait city that night. -
Ground Assault day 4: The End
American forces continued to completely destroy all of the Iraqi Army. American forces were just trying to destroy as much Iraqi equipment as possible.
